[ 12am + 00/60 ] [ ART OPENING SATURDAY MARCH 8TH @ 7-11PM ]

Still and Moving Pictures by Josue Rojas.

The San Francisco Mission District's own Josué Rojas presents "Los Disappeared" a multimedia art exhibition that marries aesthetics and ethics, journalism and fine arts.

This cutting edge collection of paintings and video are inspired by the artist's work/ travels in Central America, and from his interest in capturing the plight of young Salvadorans whose lives were drastically changed by the 12-year-long civil war in El Salvador. As part of the "Salviaspora" these young people have made it back to the homeland through a series of events, displaced by injustice, irony and fragmentation due to civil and urban wars.

The exhibition also speaks to the phenomenon of those that have never left El Salvador and are now participating in cultures/subcultures birthed abroad. The artist brings understanding to the why's and how's of the deported American dream through this captivating ensemble. The artist blends mediums to provide a pictorial and real-time depiction of the deportee experience. "The paintings are my portraits of them, the video is them in their own words."

"This is not just a Salvadoran thing. It's happening to Haitians, Cambodians & kids from every Spanish-speaking country on the continent. This is the story of the Americas during my generation." says Rojas.

there was a long war in my dads house. most of the house was taken over by the totalitarian government, with ground forces in the kitchen and most of the basement occupied by some sort of biomechanical super computer with the livingroom being the only untaken place. I somehow escaped the house and the streets were vacant and dark. I must have not been outside for years. Most of the homes were taken over by the bio-computers that completely consumed the house in what looked like the creep from starcraft. Entire blocks lookedl ike mounds of red clay with an unconsumed house once in a while. My grandfather picked me up somehow he had one of his old cars with him and he asked me where I'm headed and I said take me downtown. And he was like 'downtown? are you sure?' and i was like yeah.

there is this bike trail in somewhere called Dem, that although it is a very renowned bike trail, it also has a significant number of feral children that live along it. You can stop to briefly say a thing or two to the children, but it's highly unadvised to stop for more than a minute as the children will likely rob or kill you.

Tombs that hold approximately 4 people, the shape and size of a high-jump landing pad, ornate and viking-esque. The burial chambers are arranged one on each side and a large front compartment like a car-hood and a rear like a trunk. I could imagine seeing one of those on a merry-go-round as alternative seating to the horses.

One guy was having a house party, and he had siamese fighting fish in numerous pieces of kitchen and glassware throughout the entire house. He failed to realize that he needed something to remove the chloramine from the water, as it doesn't easily breakdown like chlorine.

oh yes, and i forgot. also, trannies.

the set up of the town was this the subburbs were directly adjacent to what i realize as some kind of cross between the graveyard in the original NES zelda and the "sunnydale swamps" neighborood of san francisco. its an almalgam of places, that creates a place that should definitively be avoided. past this area you come to a baseball field along a cliffside with a steep curving path that comes up behind and over to the top of the mountains and what would be the back yard of the large homes, similar to those you find going over the san bruno mountains. at the top of this vista, then you can take a back route over to what i believe is mt. lassen. im not sure how you even get about reaching the front entrance to these large estates, because its clear that the graveyard/ghetto is the back route.

"Sumerians believed that the universe consisted of a flat disk enclosed by a tin dome."

Even ancient Sumerians had a thing for snow globes. I can't explain what it is that makes them so delightful to me. It may just be that they're miniature, but I love them beyond all reason.

A new snow globe enchants me for weeks; I've had friends return from trips, haggard and world weary, clutching the globe they've brought me with an air of fierce defiance. Yes, I did find the one snow globe that exists in South Africa. Each globe in my collection has been a gift given to me by myself or someone I know. I will not purchase them on ebay or trade with other collectors. This preserves what I consider the purity of my collection.

They are perishable little objects of kitsch and beauty, perfect for shaking around and looking pretty, charming because they are simple yet strange. Enjoy.

roombas are the george foreman grill of vacuum technology.
a naive vacuuming person would think they are the end-all solution to vacuuming.
a roomba doesnt even understand the concept carpet napp direction.
how can you properly vacuum a carpet without this knowledge?

answer: you cant.
